Course Goals and Graduate Profile
The aim of the UFJ Chemistry Academic Master's Degree course is to train human resources with a high degree of scientific and technological knowledge, in an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner, which can work both in teaching and in research and regional development. Thus, some specific goals for the UFJ PPGQ can be highlighted:
i) Become a regional and state reference in the development of basic and applied science, meeting and anticipating the demands of the region and the state, thus generating knowledge and innovation and improving the population's quality of life;
ii) Popularize knowledge in the professionals training with skills and abilities that meet the aspirations of academia and regional and global economic sectors;
iii) Prepare and encourage students to conduct their research in multidisciplinary teams, by including them in national and international cooperation projects;
iv) Train professionals capable of undertaking, identifying and enabling mechanisms that establish interactions between the productive sector and the university, in order to transform knowledge into benefits for society;
v) Contribute to the improvement of basic and higher education in the region by encouraging Master's students to participate in the teaching internship and extension projects related to the dissemination of science and teaching;
vi) Encourage the participation of master's students as co-advisers of research projects of scientific initiation, thus creating and stimulating the interest of the undergraduate for the postgraduation;
vii) Encourage the students to attend general and specific subjects related to the concentration areas and research lines;
viii) Encourage the participation of masters students in organizations of scientific events, related to graduate and postgraduate, as well as extension projects of scientific dissemination in high school.
The graduates should be able to have an indissoluble conception of teaching, research and extension, thus being able to work in public and private educational and research institutions and the industrial sector. For this, they will have humanistic training to allow them to find innovative solutions to academic and/or industrial problems, respecting and preserving natural resources in urban and rural areas. The program will provide students with tools for a solid methodological training, seeking to develop their scientific knowledge and scientific ability to apply to the reality of chemistry, allowing them to be able to understand and transit in the most diverse areas of knowledge. The PPGQ also aims to train professionals able to develop scientific projects in research centers and industries, as well as acting as faculty in public and private institutions improving the quality of education offered since basic education. Also, given the importance of the chemistry subject in high school and difficulties in learning the content of this subject, the creation of PPQ/UFJ and the insertion of the research line in teaching chemistry aims to encourage the expansion of interaction between - postgraduate degree from UFJ and other courses in the Midwest region, thus contributing to the improvement of the teacher education quality and the educational development in science.
